HOMEWORK 4
SUBMIT YOUR RESUME TO A WEB SITE Many of the job openings that are posted on the Web require that a resume be sent via email or through a Web form. These sites often do not even provide a standard snail-mail address. Jobs in sales often require the ability to communicate in a variety of modes, and so asking for resume submissions via the web is one way for recruiters to weed out the less adept of prospective applicants. Resumes that are sent via a Web form can be stored in a database for keyword searches by a computer, allowing the recruiter to quickly screen applications for those with the best match in qualifications. From your perspective as an applicant, there are some great advantages to being able to submit a paperless resume. One is that thousands of new jobs are posted on the web every day - more postings than you could possibly have the time to track. In the old days, it could take several hundred resume mailings to obtain an ideal job - at a cost of, perhaps, a dollar for each application by the time you pay for postage, fancy paper and envelopes, and professional printing. In the time that it takes to address and print a single cover letter and envelope on paper, you can now apply electronically to a few dozen job advertisements on the web.
