The numbers in the on-line problem are above. You will be asked to do the SET-UP for forecasts using the naive, moving average (2, 3, and 4 period), and exponential smoothing (alpha = .8) methods. Work out the set-up for these ahead of time if you wish.
The Web problem will ask you to enter the set-up on the screen. Please note that the program is not very flexible and will only accept as correct entries that follow the format that it uses (i.e., commas in the right place, etc.). Whenever you get a correct answer, the on-line exercise will give you a special "answer code" which is assigned to you for each of the answers. On the chart below, fill in the answer code (not the set-up) that is returned to on the computer screen for each part of the problem: 1) _______________________________ - naive forecast 2) _______________________________ - 2-period moving average 3) _______________________________ - 4-period moving average 4) _______________________________ - 3-period moving average 5) _______________________________ - 1989 exponential smoothing 6) _______________________________ - 1990 exponential smoothing 7) _______________________________ - 1991 exponential smoothing 8) _______________________________ - 1992 exponential smoothing 9) _______________________________ - 1993 exponential smoothing 10) _______________________________ - 1994 exponential smoothing 11) _______________________________ - 1995 exponential smoothing 12) _______________________________ - 1996 exponential smoothing 13) _______________________________ - 1997 exponential smoothing 14) _______________________________ - 1998 exponential smoothing |
