ROUTING PROBLEM

Allied Standard Brands

Using the ray sweep method, Fran should first divide her territory into five wedge shaped sections, one for each day of the week, with the point of each wedge starting at her daily start and return point (her house). Since she has twenty five accounts to visit each week, each wedge should contain five accounts. The lake presents a natural boundary, so this is a good place to start the ray sweep.

By laying a straight edge through the lake, Fran can sweep the straight edge through the territory like the second hand on a clock. When she sweeps past five accounts, she draws a border line, then sweeps through another five, and so on. To see an animated demonstration of how this is done, click here.

If you did not end up with daily territories that look like the above, then you probably do not have a workload that is equal for each day of the week with respect to the number of accounts visited and to the amount of travel time. For an animated demonstration of the ray sweep mehod that was used to generate the above wedge shaped boundaries, click here.

If you did not yet do so, draw your travel route for each day within these wedges. If you need to print the map again, click the BACK.
